My Holiday Reading List

Hellooooo everyone! I hope you had a fabulous week and are looking forward to this upcoming week before a nice Thanksgiving Break! Recently, I’ve been finding myself pulling more books off the shelves than usual. Unfortunately, I’m pulling too many books off the shelves… 😳 As the holiday season closes in, and I get a real break (not one which I ignore the science homework burning on my desk), I put together a little list of books that I hope to read soon.

Enjoy ~

Number 1 on My List!!

The Bible! I really need to start studying God’s Word more. Every single year, I make it a New Year’s resolution to read it the following year, but always “forget” it and put it off till tomorrow (though that never happens… 🙄 ) This upcoming year, I am going to read it and you guys can keep me accountable! Feel free to comment in any of my posts asking how it’s going 😀 ❤

New Reads!

Life in Motion: An Unlikely Ballerina by Misty Copeland ~ I love reading biographies about people whose stories are soooo amazing. I read Michaela DePrince’s Taking Flight, and really enjoyed reading about her life story, from unloved orphan to the Dance Theatre of Harlem’s principal dancer! Misty Copeland has a similar(ish) story, and I can’t wait to read all about it!

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child by Jack Thorne ~ This one is not on the tippity top of my reading list, but after finally finishing the Harry Potter series, I think it’ll be fun to read a little bit of how Jack Thorne comes up with a little “ending” for the series 🙂

Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Christie ~ I’m not usually one for murder books, but since the movie is coming out super soon and my family is planning to watch it during my sister’s Thanksgiving Break (plus I hear from my sisters that this books is A-MAY-ZEEENG), I’m planning on reading it before I watch the movie. Because, I have found proof for this, by the way, the books are almost (almost, almost, almost) always better than the movies that are based on them. 😀 😀 😀

Anne of the Island by Lucy Maud Montgomery ~ My family and I are huuuuuuge fans of the Anne of Green Gables series!! I recommend them for everyone! They’re really good literature, too – bonus!! Although, I was only allowed to read the first two for a little while and am finally allowed to continue! ❤

Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen ~ I once tried to get started on Pride and Prejudice, but stopped for some reason…It’s a big read, and maybe I’ll begin again when I’m older, but it’s on my reading list!

The Witch of Blackbird Pond by Elizabeth George Speare ~ This is a book that’s set in the colonial times and is connected to the Salem Witch Trials. Historical Fiction. My sister bugs me from time to time to read it, but somehow it’s been kept in the car for forever…somehow…somehow…

Heidi by Johanna Spyri ~ I have only read the abridged version and I am thumping myself on the head for it!! (be right back, let me thump myself on the head) I need to read the real version!

So there’s my Holiday Reading List! I’m obviously not going to read allllllllllllllllllllllll of these books over the holidays, but it’s a list that I’ll probably keep coming back to to see my progress!

Comment down below if you’ve read any of these books and tell me what you think of them! Also, feel free to give me any reading suggestions! I’m a bookworm!!!!! Please keep me accountable with my Bible reading plan! ❤

5 Things To Do For a Veteran!

Hi guys! I hope you all are warm and cozy, maybe huddled up with a warm drink and a blanket, enjoying your Saturday morning. But hey, guess what! It’s time to get up and get active because today is Veterans’ Day! Today is the day to go to a veteran and do something special for them! Stuck getting ideas on what exactly to do? That’s why I got this list for you 🙂 It’s a short list, but it’s full of things that I‘d do 😀 😀 😀

Enjoy the list of 5 Things to Do For a Veteran! ❤ ~

  1. Attend a Veterans’ Day Event! Even if you don’t personally know veteran, you can still support, honor, and respect them and their service to the country by attending a Veterans’ Day Event near you! There are parades, ceremonies, festivals and so much more! Just search for one near you and honor the veterans in your area by doing so 🙂
  2. Take a Veteran you know out to dinner! If there’s someone in your life who’s served the country in the military, then treat them to a special evening! While you can go to their favorite gourmet restaurant, there are lots of restaurants that are free today for veterans!
  3. Visit a National Park! For all of Veterans’ Day weekend (Nov. 11 – 12), all National Parks are free! You can go with your family and friends, or take a veteran you know out for a nice hike. Although it is cold outside, hiking in the cold can still be so much fun!
  4. Write on your Blog! You can choose to write about Things to Do on Veterans’ Day or a special post that says Thank You to All the Veterans. Your choice! Pick a topic about Veterans’ Day and write about it, saying how much you’re grateful to them for serving the country.
  5. Write a nice note! Anyone would be glad to get a thoughtful note, and on this special day, Veterans especially! Tell them how much you appreciate what they’ve done and believe me, they will be very, very touched. ❤

So that’s 5 things to do for a Veteran! There are soooooo many other things you can do, but those are the 5 things that I would do 🙂

Alrighty! I’m off to go honor my daddy – an Army Veteran that I appreciate so very much!

Till next time ~

A Dr. Seuss Halloween!

Hey guys! How is November going for you so far? It hasn’t been a week yet, but I can already tell that this month is going to be great!

Anyway, Halloween just passed (a weekish ago), so I decided today it would be fun to tell you guys what my Halloween consisted of (thankfully nothing scary 🙂 )

Enjoy ~

So I dressed up as Thing 1, and of course then, there has to be a Thing 2 and the Cat in the Hat! I went with my two awesome friends to go trick-or-treating in a Dr. Seuss themed costume that we DIYed!

Thing Costume:

We bought two red shirts, sparkly red and blue tulle, elastic, and felt from Michaels (I LOVE MICHAELS!) and got crafting! We started with the tutu…it was supposed to look like a very full red and blue tutu:

tutu

Let’s just say that it did not look anything like that. I didn’t buy enough tulle so our tutus (sadly I don’t have a picture) turned out to be a tutu (I say tutu for lack of a better word) with lots of white elastic showing through, and too little tulle hanging down from elastic. (Okay, maybe I lied up there, that tutu was pretty scary – but the only scary thing that happened on Halloween 😛 )

So after having a lot of laughs over our tutu, we turned to our shirts. We cut out large circles from our felt and wrote Thing 1 (or 2) on it. Then we hot glued it to our shirts and were done!

We wore our Thing Shirt, long leggings, our scanty tutu, and little shorts underneath because it was pretty cold.

Since I’m pretty proud of the Cat in the Hat costume, I’ll tell you all about it 😀 My friend purchased long black pants and a long-sleeved black shirt. I cut out an oval/egg shape from the felt and hot glued it on. Then I made a red bow out of paper and hot glued that on as well. Thing 2 colored the tip of her nose black and drew whiskers on her cheeks with eyeliner.

We took one of the Cat in the Hat’s old hats – a hat with a Boater hat sort of design – and glued white and red cardstock on, almost like this –

cat hat

The Cat in the Hat donned her hat, we the Things donned our scanty tutus and off we went from house to house!

Now about the actual trick-or-treating part. So, since we were all Dr. Seuss themed, we thought it would be pretty clever to say a rhyme instead of just plain old “Trick-or-Treat!” That…failed. It was some silly thing like –

Thing One, Thing Two
And the Cat in the Hat, too
We hear your candy’s hard to beat
So let us just say Trick-or-Treat!

We ended up doing that for only a couple houses then gave up. Eh, no loss there for me 😛

Here’s a fun story 🙂 ~

We were finishing up trick-or-treating and knocked at this door and oh-my-goodness a lady answered the door and she was wearing a Thing costume! She had on a tutu (a much better tutu than ours) and a Thing shirt, only her shirt said, “The Boss of All Things”

It was a fun way to end the night 😀 😀 😀

So there’s my Halloween story. Lucky for me, nothing scary happened – except our tutus. Hopefully next year we’ll be able to DIY our costumes and make costumes that match again. Sorry I don’t have any pictures of our real costumes! 😦

Now my only problem is trying not to eat all the candy…

Till Next Time ~

The Road Undesirable

Hi everyone! I hope you’re having a good week 😀

I’m here to tell you about an extraordinary way that God worked today by sending me down the Road Undesirable ❤ God truly does have a plan for everything; so we can trust in Him!

This afternoon my sister and I took my adorable dog, Penny, out for a walky 😛 We reached an intersection in our neighborhood. There were two ways to go – left or right. Yesterday, we went to the right and around, and that’s the way I wanted to go again because there were less cars and pedestrians. I, for one, enjoy a more peaceful walk.

This time, though, my sister persuaded me to go to the left, and I, being the kind person I am 😉 , gave in. We walked for a bit, the cars driving by. The time I began to regret taking that route was when I saw a sweet elderly lady in the distance. I had nothing against her, she looked really nice; however, I was worried that Penny would go nutso.

My family had just recently adopted Penny from the shelter, so we were still working on the crazy barking thing. She tended to bark more at men, but there was the growling factor.

The distance between us and the elderly lady lessened and lessened. I noticed she was having a hard time walking – and she had a cane. Finally, we crossed paths. Penny let out a low growl from the back of her throat. The lady, who thought Penny was another sweet puppy, looked startled. We apologized and were about to quickly go on our way, but the lady stopped us.

“Excuse me,” she said kindly, “could one of you two do me a favor?”

“Of course!” we said back, happy to help.

She smiled. “Could you put this letter in that mailbox right there? I can’t get up the steps and I was worried how I was going to deliver this letter to my neighbor.”

Since my sister was the one with the leash, I quickly took the letter, walked up the front steps of the house near by, and placed it inside the mailbox. The lady thanked us and went on her way. I thought nothing of it until my sister stopped at a crossroad.

“Isn’t that amazing?” she said, waiting for the cars to pass. “If we hadn’t taken this road, then we would’ve never met that lady. It’s unfortunate to think what she would’ve done if we hadn’t taken this way.”

I dwelled on that fact for a while, then as I was eating dinner, I realized that God had sent me on the Road Undesirable for a reason. Who knows what the lady would’ve done if we hadn’t gone on that path?

God offers two paths. Sometimes the path is chosen for us and sometimes we get to choose. Either way, the Road Undesirable leads to what’s more desirable, which is Christ Jesus our Lord and Savior.

Finding Power From Philippians

Yes! It’s Monday! Time to start a new week all refreshed from the weekend 🙂 Today is also Motivational Monday! Here’s a few Bible verses from Philippians that I really found comfort in.

Enjoy ~

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me ~ Philippians 4:13

And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus Philippians 4:19

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guards your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus ~ Philippians 4:6-7

There we go! Finding power from Philippians! I really like these verses because they reassure that God strengthens, God provides, God understands, and God guards. I hope you’ve found some encouragement or peace in this post! 😀

Here’s a question I would love to know the answer to:

From which book in the Bible do you draw the most inspiration and strength from?

I wish you good luck and give you a great big hug through this post as you start your new week!

The grace of Lord Jesus Christ be with your Spirit ~ Philippians 4:23
