Tolkien’s Thoughts

Good evening! 😀 It’s a Monday, and yes the beginning of a new week, and also Motivational Monday! I have here some quotes that I find very thoughtful and meaningful.

I got the quotes below from J.R.R. Tolkien, the author of the Lord of the Rings Trilogy.

“So do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time given to us. There are other forces at work in this world other than the will of evil and temptation. Maybe you were meant to find it. In which case, you were also meant to overcome it. And that is an encouraging thought.” – Gandalf the Gray

It’s like in the great stories. The ones that really matter. Full of darkness and danger, they were. Sometimes you didn’t want to know the end, because how could the end be happy? How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad has happened? But in the end, it’s only a passing thing, this shadow. Even darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines, it will shine out the clearer. Those were the stories that stayed with you, even if you were too small to understand why.  But I think I do understand. Folk in those stories had lots of chances to turn back, only they didn’t. They kept going, because they were holding on to something. That there is some good in this world and it’s world fighting for.  – Samwise Gamgee

Some believe it is great power that can hold evil in check. But that is not what I have found. I have found that it is the small, everyday deeds of ordinary folk that keep the darkness at bay. Small acts of kindness and love. – Gandalf

The world is indeed full of peril, and in it there are many dark places; but still there is much that is fair, and though in all lands love is now mingled with grief, it grows perhaps the greater. – Haldir

There are a few quotes from the J.R.R. Tolkien that I find very helpful in certain times. Although, yes, they were said by fictional characters, it does not mean that they have no meaning.

I hope you’ve found them inspirational and I wish you best of luck during this upcoming week!

Till next time ~

Lydia ❤
